About the event

Wondering what Maundy even means? And what is a Tenebrae Service?

Maundy is the English form of the Latin word meaning "commandment."  Jesus' new commandment to "love one another" is the focus of Maundy Thursday.

Tenebrae comes from the Latin word for darkness, and  is a religious service characterized by readings about the life of Jesus and the gradual extinguishing of candles after each, ending with the church in near total darkness as we ponder his cruxifiction and burial. Sacred music is another traditional compenent, and our incredile choir's songs add a hauntingly beautiful element.

(Although each church's services will vary, including the number of readings ,  this VIDEO gives a good overview of what a Tenebrae Service is about. You can also read the bulletin from last year's service HERE)

Please join us for this solemn and moving service as we journey toward the good news of Easter.

"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.  Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."  John 13:34-35
