“Always Ahead Of Us”

Be strong and bold... It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. - Deuteronomy 31:7b&8
We concluded our Annual Meeting this past Sunday, and part of those meetings always involves looking ahead at the year before us. What will we be doing, who will be doing it, and how much will it cost? These things take a lot of time, energy, and planning to present, and even after all of that some of it, like a proposed budget, is part guesswork.
The year ahead of us as a church is full of unknowns: Who will be our new Preschool Director? How will all of that go? When will we get back to the church in larger numbers? When will we be able to sing again? When will the choir be back? When can we do this-or-that, and how will it work?
We don’t have all those answers, and more often than not when we look ahead at our futures none of us has all the answers to the questions about what lies ahead. Yet, as people of faith there is one thing about what lies ahead of which we can be sure: God is there ahead of us, and God will be there waiting when we get there.
It’s a comforting thought, to think that as much as God is walking with us in the present, God is also at work in our future, preparing our way for us. We just have to have the faith to follow and know in our hearts that everything will be okay once we arrive.
The future is indeed an unknown, but it needn’t be a cause for worry or alarm. It is simply something waiting to be discovered, and when we do, we’ll find that God is there waiting for us and all is indeed well.
PRAYER
Eternal God, thank you for not only being with us in our present but also awaiting us in the unknown future that lies ahead of us. It is a comfort to know you are there with us in all times.
Amen.
Peace,
Shawn
