FRIDAY NIGHT CINEMA AT FIRST CONGREGATIONAL – AUGUST 27

Back by popular demand and as a result of our successful Muslim movie nights in June, the church is beginning this August monthly film screenings covering various themes related to social justice as well as the celebration of our shared human experiences. Our mission is to educate as we entertain. We will explore such topics and themes as race relations, sexual orientation issues, religion, science, health, art & culture, war & peace, crime & punishment, poverty, domestic violence, immigration, animal and environmental concerns, etc. We will even throw in comedy films just for fun from time to time.

On Friday, August 27, we will be showing The Visitor. With Oscar-nominated performances, it is a movie about the rarely discussed effects of U.S. immigration policy on undocumented immigrants and their families. It is also a film about the ability of music to transcend cultural barriers and create profound friendships.

Our special guest speaker is Andre Rawlerson, who will be sharing regarding the enriching influence of African drum music. The presentation and movie start at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center located in the Gurtler Center, 2nd floor of Fellowship Hall. You may wish to bring food to share. We will eat after 8:30 p.m. which is the time for breaking fast for our Muslim friends. All are welcome!
