July 19 – Mr. Bassem Chaaban, Operations Director at the Islamic Society of Central Florida, is our guest speaker.

We will begin a Study of Islam and spend several weeks on this topic.  This is a list of some topics we will be studying regarding Islam:

Christians' common heritage with Muslims
General Islamic history; who was Muhammad and what is his story
Human rights and women's rights and Islam
Five pillars of faith
The Quran
Divisions within Islam and how they came to be
Misconceptions regarding jihad Islamic law

July 26 – Yasmeen Qadri, Ed. D., Professor & Education Coordinator at Valencia Community College, is our guest speaker and will address topics such as women in Islam, current Islamic practices and scriptural interpretation in the Muslim world.

August 2 – Dr. Gary Sligh is our guest speaker; his topic of discussion is Islam: A Christian Professor’s perspective.

August 9 – Miguel Rodriguez, Graduate Student, History Department, University of Central Florida, will talk about the history of Liberation Theology. So what is Liberation Theology? Where did it originate? In Nazi era Europe or in Catholic Latin America during early Vatican II? How was it used against the apartheid regime in South Africa? How is it related to the Social Gospel and Civil Rights movements in the U.S.? How does it contribute to Black Theology and Feminist Theology? What does it mean for the future of Christianity? Come find out the answers to these questions and why Liberation Theology is so controversial for many Christian churches today, including the United Church of Christ.

August 16, 23 and 30 – We will discuss some of the information in the book, What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam,
